Registering your rent agreement adds a layer of legal protection that a plain printout cannot match. Here is the basic idea.

An agreement longer than eleven months typically needs to be registered, which involves stamp duty and a registration charge that vary by state. Many tenants use an eleven-month term specifically to keep the process lighter.

Even when registration is not mandatory, notarising the agreement and keeping identity and address proofs on file makes any future dispute far easier to handle.
