Security deposit rules every tenant should know

The security deposit is often the biggest upfront cost of renting, so it pays to understand how it works.

In the Tricity, deposits commonly range from one to three months of rent depending on the owner and the property. The deposit should be refundable at the end of the tenancy, minus any genuine, documented damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Protect yourself by recording the flat condition with photos on move-in day and agreeing in writing on what can be deducted. That single step prevents most deposit disputes.
